The Pennsylvania RTC (PRTC) kicked off the new year in style at the prestigious Dave Schultz Memorial International in Colorado Springs.

The highlight was BJ Futrell dominating the competition on his way to the 65kg freestyle title and being named outstanding wrestler of the tournament. BJ won all four of his matches by technical fall, outscoring his opponents 42-1.

Dan Vallimont also had a strong freestyle tournament with an impressive second place finish at 74kg. Dan won his first two matches by major and tech fall before dropping a hard-fought match in the finals.

“BJ and Dan have had an excellent period of training which showed in their performances. It was especially rewarding to see BJ win gold and earn outstanding wrestler considering he missed most of 2018 with an injury. When healthy, BJ is one of the best freestyle wrestlers in the world. This meet is the first step toward successful 2019 seasons for both BJ and Dan,” said Brandon Slay, Executive Director and Head Coach of the PRTC.

PRTC wrestlers Chase Pami and Dan Vallimont will next compete in Cuba Feb. 21-22, while BJ Futrell will compete in Bulgaria March 1-2.
